Clubs value their volunteers

Rugby supporters are taking to social media to hail the greatest volunteers behind the community game.

WRU community followers have hit Twitter to pay tribute to the people at the heart of the clubs they serve, as part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations of rugby union in Wales.

Fifteen decades since the nation’s first match on record, the WRU launched a search for the ultimate ‘FABXV’ community volunteers via the new community Twitter handle, @WRU_Community.

Over the last few days we've heard about Carmarthen Quins Club Secretary Charlie Pirie and Claire Thomas of Llanishen RFC Mini's and Juniors, among others. See all the nominations so far by searching #FABVX on Twitter.

The WRU is inviting supporters to shine a light on the good work of rugby volunteers in their community by sharing videos and pictures of their community champions to @WRU_Community using the hashtag #FABXV and a brief explanation of why they deserve a place in Welsh rugby’s first Fab XV.

As well as being acknowledged for their great work by the community they serve, nominees will automatically be put forward for selection into the WRU final Fab XV. The 15 finalists will be invited to attend one of the autumn Under Armour Series international matches at Principality Stadium as the guest of the WRU.

Anybody who would like to nominate a volunteer using the hashtag  #FabXV can do so on Twitter via @WRU_Community or by emailing their information to cluboperations@wru.wales  The email address can also provide information for people interested in becoming part of the community game in Wales as a volunteer – whether that be behind the scenes in the clubhouse, as an administrator, as a referee or elsewhere on the pitch as a coach or manager etc - and put people in touch with clubs in their local area.

Nomination Guidelines

To nominate somebody  you feel deserves to be part of the FabXV please tweet your nomination using the hashtag #FABXV and including the name of the club represented to @WRU_Community or email cluboperations@wru.wales with “FABXV” as the email subject.

We will contact you via Twitter direct message or email to ask for more information about your nomination to be provided to our judging panel. Only nominations where further information is provided will be considered.

Winners will have the opportunity to attend a Wales international rugby match at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Further details will be released once the winners have been selected.  Please note that winners will be required to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.
